“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them”.
(Hebrews 6:10 NIV)
I decided that as I needed more petrol that I would pop into the supermarket for a few things we needed too. As I entered the supermarket I noticed a Fair-trade display. Our nearest town is aiming to become a fair-trade town. This was a good reminder that I always try to buy fairly, and encourage others too. Indeed yesterday in 2 of my churches I showed a short film clip and also agreed that for one of my churches next Sunday I would focus on fair trade. (I tried putting a link in to YouTube but it didn’t work)
So as I did my shopping I tried to buy fairly. I think probably only the bananas and coffee were fair trade. As I went round I decided to try and buy equivalent for the food bank who have a drop off point in the supermarket. It was interesting to see my inner conversation with myself when it was a choice between expensive shampoo (mine was out of stock but I got the conditioner on offer) and a cheaper version. As I colour my hair and get shampoo to ensure it stays looking good, I did opt for the supermarket own brand of Tee Tree shampoo and conditioner. I got toothpaste plus a pack of toothbrushes – the same for the food bank as us. I do wonder though if I had found the shelf with the full choice of cheaper brushes if I would have done the same. I got mine off an end of aisle display. I got UHT milk for them, and normal for us plus some cornflakes for them whereas I had bought some vegetables and fruit (not wanted by food bank). Own brand items are usually just as good as the branded and so I don’t feel bad about looking for the cheaper options. In fact, I will try to make it a habit to get a few things for the food bank each time I shop. I took a photo of their ‘shopping list’ so I will know what they want. In total I put 7 items in the food bank (total about £8) and bought 12 items for us. So I think I fulfilled the green option.
Here’s the link to the reflection etc. I don’t seem to be having much success in cutting and pasting things today so I hope it works.
