This leaf is actually the first one I started on at the beginning of our recent holiday. I painted around a leaf that I laid onto the paper so I then had the correct leaf shape.
Next decision was whether to make it realistic or abstract. I ended up realistic and was pleased with the end result. The grey background makes the colours stand out well. I used pens for the detail of veins and the outline.
My only regret is that I didn’t do it on a larger piece of paper, or at least on one that had been cut straight!
