Shells

I see sea shells on the sea shore
wonderful waves washing
and depositing
treasures galore

I went for a walk yesterday along the beach pondering the prompt for my ‘inchie’ art challenge – shell. I saw lots of them and resisted picking any up. After all, I have SO MANY at home. When we moved house and I saw how big my collection of stones and shells was, the phrase ‘taking coals to Newcastle’ came to mind.

I did however take the photograph below as a reminder of how the patterns and colours on the shells had caught my eye and I wanted to include them in my art work.

I walked past a crab the sea had deposited. I already have a crab shell in my collection. Easy to resist. However resistance was futile when it came to a lobster tail that had been washed ashore.

Here it is washed and waiting to be added to the collection. I think I will need another container. It’s beautiful and fascinating the way that the different sections are held together and move.

When I got home I made a start on painting shells. However, as is often the case, life took over and I didn’t get on very well with the art.

Here’s my desk this morning with inchies started and an array of my favourite shells.

My mind had been playing with words, as you can see from the start of this blog. So my creativity has turned to poetry today. I have finished the inchies. Not perfect, with definitely a ‘could do better’ judgement. But there is another prompt for today and I have other things I am doing. So I will print this out and add it to the page in my Inchie Challenge journal.

I had a few attempts at different poetic forms. These will, I think, do.

A Haiku

Wonderful waves wash
treasures galore on the shore:
lobster, crab and more.

A Cinquain

Shells
treasures galore
wonderful waves wash
lobster, crab and more
ashore.

Here’s the finished page. I decided to just cut out the poems rather than add the whole blog post.
